Goals
Minimize harm: death and illness
- Treat infected people in timely manner
- Method:
- Identify infected people:
- Contact/route tracing
- Publicity of risks (exposure risks) and symptoms
- Prioritize who needs treatment
- Triage: starting with self-assessment
- Deliver treatment (the POD)
- Implement/enforce prioritization
- Effective admininstration: taking medication, awareness of side-effects and other problems
- Tracking: follow-up and avoid redundant treatment
- Minimize rate of infection
- "rate" has two dimensions: across the population and across time
- Minimize total number of people infected - fewer total people to treat
- Slow down the infection spread - fewer people to treat at a given time
- Benefits
- Reduce overburdening of treatment facilities
- Allow time for supplies to arrive
