Airport Issues: Visiting Recourse Technologies
The San Francisco peninsula has two major airports:
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- San Jose International Airport (SJC)
plus the
Oakland (CA) Airport
on the other (east) side of the bay.
We recommend that you consider flying into San Jose
instead of San Francisco.
- SFO tends to have worse weather than SJC or Oakland
- In bad weather, SFO has to close down one of its two runways
(they are too close together)
resulting in flight delays.
- Construction activity at SFO results in significant traffic delays
within the airport.
- Consider taking I-380 to I-280 (south) rather than US 101.
Traffic on I-280 almost always has fewer problems and moves better.
Note: I-380 is just north of the airport.
Note: I-380 is easily accessible from the auto rental companies.
- Smaller airport than SFO: smaller selection of flights.
Selection impacts choice of airline, and sometimes price, but
you can usually get as good (or better) flight schedule
to most US destinations.
- Slightly closer to Palo Alto than SFO.
